48. Aguirre: The Wrath Of God
49. Secrets & Lies
50. Badlands

This list was selected by a committee including David Puttnam, Jason Solomons, Karen Krizanovich, Tessa Ross, and Menhaj Huda. Puttnam is a key figure in the British film industry, though his is the only worthy name on the committee.

Apocalypse Now is a pretty good choice as #1, but many, many films are too recent to be included in such high positions (City Of God, Sexy Beast, Donnie Darko, Lost In Translation...). Maybe they should rename it 'fifty best cult films'.

Like the recent list by Andrew Collins, The Godfather and Citizen Kane are inexplicably omitted. Scarface is the remake rather than the original.

I find it unbelievable that they missed "Das Boot" and "Platoon". Outrageous.

Close encounters of the third kind? I thought it was fantastic. They also missed Fistful of dollars and the seven samurai.

The list is called: 50 Films to See Before You Die, not the 50 Greatest Films of All Time, Subtle difference. There is usually a performance (Sexy Beast), technological breakthrough (Terminator 2) or some fantastic cinemetography (Black Narcissus) in a film that may be overlooked because the film itself isn't considered an all-time great. Had you seen the program on Saturday July 22 (and clearly you haven't) you would have understood.

I note the title, but not the difference. If it's a list of 50 films to see before you die they should be the 50 greatest films. True, I didn't see the programme, because I live in Thailand not the UK. However, I can recognise the strengths of each film without watching the programme.

The 50 films on the list are all great, and it's especially nice that they included 2001, Apocalypse Now, and Pink Flamingos, but a list of 50 is not enough because there are too many important omissions (see above).

Jesus, did they have to give away the ending to practically all of them? Even Fight Club? If the point of this programme was to inform film lovers about movies they might not have seen and should, showing the final scene of practically each one isn't going to endear you to anyone. Also, James bloody King? I thought they'd rounded up industry EXPERTS. Was Mark Kermode busy that day? Gah.
