Film Soundtracks

Madonna has recorded individual songs for numerous films: Into The Groove for Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Live To Tell for At Close Range (1986), I Surrender Dear for Bloodhounds Of Broadway (1989; a duet with Jennifer Grey), This Used To Be My Playground for A League Of Their Own (1992), I'll Remember for With Honors (1994), Beautiful Stranger for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and Die Another Day for Die Another Day (2002). These were also released as singles and have been released on either their film soundtrack albums and/or on various Madonna albums.

The films listed below are those in which Madonna has a starring role and which also have soundtrack albums available. In many cases, the soundtracks also feature songs by other artists, though only Madonna's contributions are listed. The only all-Madonna album here is I'm Breathless, which is mostly comprised of Madonna songs inspired by (not taken from) Dick Tracy.

Vision Quest

Gambler, Crazy For You.

Madonna contributed two songs to the film Vision Quest's soundtrack album, both of which were released as singles: Crazy For You and Gambler. Crazy For You was so popular that Vision Quest's title was changed to Crazy For You in Latin America.

Who's That Girl

Who's That Girl (1987)

Who's That Girl, Causing A Commotion, The Look Of Love, Can't Stop.

Madonna performed four songs for the Who's That Girl film soundtrack, two of which were released as singles: Who's That Girl (the title track) and Causing A Commotion. In addition, The Look Of Love was released as a single in Europe and Japan. Who's That Girl was also the title of Madonna's 1987 world tour.

I'm Breathless

I'm Breathless (1990)

He's A Man, Sooner Or Later, Hanky Panky, I'm Going Bananas, Cry Baby, Something To Remember, Back In Business, More, What Can You Lose, Now I'm Following You I, Now I'm Following You II, Vogue.

I'm Breathless features three songs from the film Dick Tracy: Sooner Or Later, More, and What Can You Lose. The album also includes two duets with stars from the film: Now I'm Following You (I and II) with Warren Beatty and What Can You Lose with Mandy Patinkin. Now I'm Following You II, a remix of Now I'm Following You I, includes samples from He's A Man, Hanky Panky, and Cry Baby.

Vogue, the final track from I'm Breathless, became one of Madonna's most successful singles ever, promoted with a video featuring her striking various Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo poses (directed by David Fincher in 1990). The other single from I'm Breathless was the saucy Hanky Panky.

Evita (1997)

Oh What A Circus, Eva And Magaldi/Eva Beware Of The City, Buenos Aires, Another Suitcase In Another Hall, Goodnight And Thank You, I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You, Hello And Goodbye, Peron's Latest Flame, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, On The Balcony Of The Casa Rosada II, High Flying Adored, Rainbow High, The Actress Hasn't Learned The Lines (You'd Like To Hear), Partido Feminista, Waltz For Eva And Che, Your Little Body's Slowly Breaking Down, You Must Love Me, Eva's Final Broadcast, Lament.

Madonna recorded the soundtrack to the film Evita, and several of the songs were released as singles: You Must Love Me (with slightly rearranged music), Another Suitcase In Another Hall (in the UK only), and Don't Cry For Me Argentina. The following tracks are duets with Antonio Banderas: Oh What A Circus, Goodnight And Thank You, Peron's Latest Flame, High Flying Adored, The Actress Hasn't Learned The Lines (You'd Like To Hear), Waltz For Eva And Che, and Lament. Two tracks are duets with Jonathan Pryce: I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You and Your Little Body's Slowly Breaking Down. One track, Eva And Magaldi/Eva Beware Of The City, features Madonna, Antonio Banderas, and Jimmy Nail. One track, Hello And Goodbye, features Madonna, Andrea Corr, and Jonathan Pryce.

The album was released in two versions. Evita: The Motion Picture Soundtrack (featuring every song from the film) and Evita: Music From The Motion Picture (a highlights album, featuring Oh What A Circus, Eva And Magaldi/Eva Beware Of The City, Buenos Aires, Another Suitcase In Another Hall, Goodnight And Thank You, I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You, Peron's Latest Flame, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, High Flying Adored, Rainbow High, Waltz For Eva And Che, You Must Love Me, Eva's Final Broadcast, and Lament).

Time Stood Still, American Pie.

For the soundtrack album to the film The Next Best Thing, Madonna recorded Time Stood Still and a cover version of American Pie. American Pie was released as a single.
