A Coup For The Rich, by Chulalongkorn professor Giles Ji Ungpakorn, discusses the anti-Thaksin protests of 2005-2006,
last year's coup and its impact, public perception of the monarchy (quoting briefly from
The King Never Smiles), and the current separatist uprising in southern Thailand. He is rather polemical, but his direct criticism of several current authority figures is refreshing and almost unique. Consequently, the book is not stocked by bookshops (with the notable exception of Thammasat University Bookstore), though it is available as an online download.
